Performer Notes
  • On Tassili, Touareg guitar heroes Tinariwen's and their debut for Anti Records, strip their army of hypnotic electric guitars sound back to its barest, and offer a twist. Recorded in a protected region of the Southeastern Algerian desert, this nomadic group recorded Tassili with only acoustic guitars and hand percussion. Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio contributed to the sessions in Africa. The tapes were sent to the States, where Nels Cline added guitar parts, and New Orleans' Dirty Dozen Brass Band's horns were melded into the mix.

Mojo (Publisher) (p.92) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "TASSILI is a deliberate step on from IMIDIWAN....This broadens the palette and consolidates their status..."
