Combining the best aspects of the family band and the power trio, the Family Rain offer up a searing debut with Under the Volcano. With a mixture of gritty hard rock and moody blues, the Bath, England trio have a sense of tightness and focus that could only come from a life spent rocking out together. The way the three brothers weave around one another with their playing on tracks like the twisting, garage rock-inspired "Trust Me...I'm a Genius" is impressive, to say the least. Even though Under the Volcano can feel, at times, a bit too polished, the Family Rain's opening volley is a solid one that will definitely find some love with fans of blues-rock revivalists like the Black Keys. ~ Gregory Heaney
