Not only was the Rooftop Singers' defining single, "Walk Right In," the biggest pure folk crossover hit on the pop charts, spending two weeks at #1 in late 1963--it was the label's biggest-selling record ever. In all ways, the Rooftop Singers were Vanguard's successors to their 1950s predecessors, the Weavers, down to lead vocals by Pete Seeger's replacement in that earlier band, Erik Darling. However, the Rooftop Singers were more comfortable with pop and jazz than the purist Weavers were, making them more accessible for newcomers. This perfectly chosen 10-track compilation shows just how instantly appealing they were.
