The Weavers were the faces and voices of the early years of the folk revival, and the flagship act of the Vanguard label throughout the 1950s. The 10-track VANGUARD VISIONARIES anthology, as a result, is concentrated down to only the quartet's most famous and influential songs, from their chart-topping take on Leadbelly's "Goodnight Irene" to their version of the African folk tune "Wimoweh" (a song later transformed into the pop classic "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by the Tokens). This is an excellent introduction for newcomers, but longtime fans should already have all these songs.
