Performer Notes
  • Personnel: Anthony Lukens (piano, Fender Rhodes piano, background vocals); Jason Quever (organ); Owen Ashworth.
  • Recording information: Advance Base, Chicago, IL; Bordeaux, France; Pan American Recording Studios, San Francisco, CA.
  • Unknown Contributor Role: Owen Ashworth.
  • The fifth album by one-man-band Owen Ashworth, aka Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, still contains plenty of the rinky-dink electronic keyboards inherent in his band name, but on CASIOTONE FOR THE PAINFULLY ALONE VS. CHILDREN, he adds acoustic piano, organ, Mellotron, and live drums. Ashworth even invites some guest musicians into his previously hermetic soundworld. But the sound and feel of these 11 quirky, idiosyncratic songs remains as intensely personal as on his earlier albums, featuring awkwardly sung and nakedly personal lyrics over bouncy, bubblegummy tunes.
Professional Reviews
Pitchfork (Website) - "It all adds up to easily the most mature and thematically ambitious Casiotone release to date, a further testament to the talents of a man more in tune with the lives of his generation than many of the folks actually living them."

Clash (magazine) (p.110) - "A more organic sounding record is the result, less 'Casio,' more 'tone'....Mature melancholy and stark fear is the agenda here and it leaves you dumbstruck."
