Performer Notes
  • After a long four-year gap between releases, Belle & Sebastian returned with their eighth studio album in the autumn of 2010. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Tony Hoffer (who had previously worked with the group on 2006's The Life Pursuit), the album was released by Rough Trade in the U.K. and Matador in the U.S., and delivered the same thoughtful, tuneful, and emotional songs and performances fans of the band had come to depend on over the previous decade and a half.
Professional Reviews
Billboard (p.36) - "Time has seemingly turned the veteran act optimistic, even when writing about the sometimes messy topic of love."

Mojo (Publisher) (p.108) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he stand-out 'The Ghost Of Rockschool' grooves on a mellow, Sly-like backbeat."

Paste (magazine) - "[A] clean, lovingly produced affair that takes cues largely from fellow nonthreatening whisperers Simon & Garfunkel..."

Clash (magazine) - "[T]his is a beautifully mellow comeback for the modest indie-pop luminaries."

Uncut (magazine) (p.81) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "B&S have transformed themselves from simpering recorder-group softies into a spry unit offering a trim take on Northern Soul and '60s French pop."
